Global Education Guide (GEG)
This guide aims to provide insight, educate and provide tools for discussions and the implementation of globally enhanced schools and curriculum, project-based learning, and differentiated instruction to meet the needs of select communities in the Ritenour School district. The Global Education Guide is the capstone project for the IREX Teachers for Global Classrooms fellowship funded by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs, Teachers for Global Classrooms Fellowship 2017-18 program, administered by IREX. During this intensive year-long process, I was one of 77 fellows from around the country participating in a 12-week online course. I journeyed to Washington, DC, for a weekend symposium and will travel to Peru this summer.
Shaping the future Technology is changing the world in ways we can't plan for, with outcomes we can't anticipate. As an educator, I prepare students for this ever-changing world. Why it matters?
Global education is a vital component of education today. Technology has removed the mysteries of people around the world by eliminating the challenges of time and space. A more robust economy has made travel available and accessible to all, thereby "...the changing nature of neighborhoods, identities, and citizenship; and climate instability and the growing need for global environmental stewardship". As an educator preparing students for the 21st-century workplace, I am responsible for sharing this information with my students and providing them with opportunities to process and understand the role they will play in the world's future.

"Understanding and connection with others promote peace. To give students the chance to learn from people around the world. Relationships and cultural understanding are critical in today's world. I think global education is really important because it helps us to connect our students with people all over the world." Nov 18, 2013 |
"Global education places particular emphasis on curriculum process as well as content and is accordingly characterized by approaches to teaching and learning which are both experiential and participatory. It draws on two long-standing traditions within education (Richardson 1990). The first is concerned with learner-centered education and the development of the individual; the second focuses on education's role in helping create a more just and equitable society. The emphasis in global education is therefore on changing self and society, for neither is possible without the other."
