to The Global Awareness Country Profile is a great lesson to use when introducing global issues and events. As a part of teacher planning, it is important to make sure the information the lesson will require students to gather can be found on each site used. As a part of this lesson students were required to visit the UNESCO site to learn gain insight on SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOAL (SDG) 4 and EDUCATION INDICATORS FOR REPORTING AND MONITORING. Students were required to collect information on the number of school age children in each country. This data was used in our discussion concerning the workforce the educational system is preparing for the future. Additionally students explored the Centralized Intelligence Agency World Fact Book to gather information on the resources (natural, human and capital) to contribute to the discussion on the evolving business and industry in their country. All projects were presented in class. The students really enjoyed this assignment.
Lesson using News Article and Images
It is important to include non-academic or text information in lessons. Doing this enables students to connect school to life. In the following lesson Culture - World Classrooms, students were asked to reflect on an in class reading and discussion on the concept of culture and using the images in the Washington Post on World Classrooms, draw conclusions about gender roles, education, social class, values and attitudes based on the three pictures of their choice.
